The may not be a great performer in front of the camera, but one thing is very clear about Reema; she is a great planner. She knows how to keep herself alive in tinsel town even when her box office value has considerably declined and her movies are continually flopping.
The new card she has on the table before the media is that she is planning a movie not as an actress, but as a director. According to her, the reason behind the change is that she is bored with the routine formula films, which always revolve around heroes, while the heroines are treated as mere showpieces. Reema, who is known for her gift of the gab, very serenely stated that she had decided about directing a movie after a lot of thought.
I was abroad sometime back when I saw a BBC documentary about the subcontinents cinema. They presented beautiful images from Bollywood in which Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri and Aishwarya Rai were shown as stars, but I felt ashamed when they showed glimpses of our film industry in which every hero was wearing bloodied clothes and speaking the language as if they were psycho killers. I realized at that time that there was a major flaw in our film industry, which was not representing our society properly. Then I thought about what I could do to improve the situation. I have been working in the film industry for the last 12 years as an actress and I can do nothing to change the persisting system as an actress. I have left many projects as I dont want to work in movies with too much violence, but you know that cant revolutionize the whole situation.
So after mulling over it for some time, I have decided to direct a movie myself. I want to change the typical image of Lollywood and try to make our movies more representative of our society. These days I am working on the script and the shooting, hopefully, will start in August.
So what is the topic of her debut flick as a director? Reema promptly replied that one thing is for sure it will not be a violence-based movie and the hero would be a normal human being. She said that she didnt want to give details about the script or cast as nothing was final yet, but everyone would hear the good news soon enough.
